The Rotary Club of Lunesdale celebrates its 40th Anniversary.
On Thursday 12th March at the Castle Inn at Hornby the Rotary Club's President Peter Irving welcomed members, past Rotarians and Friends of Rotary to a special evening to celebrate the Club's 40th Anniversary. Peter related how the Club was granted its Charter on 27th March 1975 and read out to those present some important happenings in the Club's history. He then invited anyone with a favourite memory to share it with those present. Many memories were shared one of the most poignant was told by Duncan Hamlett. He recalled the appeal in 1978 by Pat Seed to raise money for a scanner in the Lancashire area in the fight against cancer. A spectacular day-long  sponsored swim at the Hornby Swimming pool, in which many rotary clubs and others took part, raised an amazing £10,000. Today that equates to £51,000. The evening was one of good fellowship, lots of humour and nostalgia.
